Effervescence

 Joanna twirled in her long, shimmery, turquoise gown; absolutely thrilled by the prospect of finally revelling in the reality of her dreams. Joy had come and embraced her tightly and  Joanna was never going to unfold from this sweet, savoury embrace. The world belonged to her now and she finally understood what it was like to be free; to conquer, to thrive. The night was splendid too. Moonlight splattered daringly across her room, with its bright light trails boldy paving  a reassuring path of love and peace.

Her soul surged with electricity and inspiration. Joanna found it impossible to contain the bubbles of excitement that oozed from her heart and popped out of her soul. She had not told anyone her news to date though she intensely craved to, simply because she knew that no one would really believe that divine intervention had swooped in to steal her fears and hide them away and instead replace them with a spirit of peace,  love and happiness. Tonight, she would celebrate. 

As Joanna sat in front of her mirror to apply just a little touch of blush, her reflection stole her gaze and held it, captivating and alluring. Now, wandering inside the mirror, she became transfixed by reflections of who she used to be and her soul slipped a fraction. "Maybe this could never be for me," she sighed deeply. But then the alarm broke through, loud and incessant and how timely too. With an elevated spirit and a heart of gold, Joanna leaped and even twirled once more.

Down the stairs Joanna skipped and out the door she bolted quick, entering into the warm night and daring to be who she always wanted to be. Tonight she would dance with the angels who have always surrounded her, guided her, moulded her, covered her, saved her. She would live through every moment of this night looking forward to the future. The ocean before her lay wide and vast, yes, but her boat and her oars have been fortified with immaculate steering power. For she is who she was and she was who she is, and that will always be Joanna.

Forget Them

The quest for closure can sometimes come at a high price. People intentionally hurt us and act like we pulled the knife from their back. Closure sometimes looks like accepting that others do not associate themselves with accountability. Closure can look like understanding that others are more interested in their self- righteousness and false sense of grandiosity than actually building and sustaining meaningful relationships. Closure can look like accepting that some people will never admit they are wrong even if the devil held the meeting with them himself. Closure means choosing you. Choosing you and walking away from what others will never acknowledge. Why don't you acknowledge how amazing you are instead, how freely you love, how slow you judge and how automatically that light inside you shines? Uncanny

A big headed, protruding navel, slang talking little boy just popped up in our amidst. All we knew was that he was my uncle's son and a trail of mischief was forever his shadow (inserts chuckle). His name was even stranger.....Jomokenyatah? What on God's green Earth? (inserts chuckle through tears). No formal introduction was necessary,  he just fit right in. We swear, he became our granny's favourite in absolutely no time! Hiding stuff in her blouse to hand to him when she thought we didn't notice, that was a tell all. (inserts chuckle) We remember the days when he ran naked and his mother screamed "Oba,"....... to which there was never a response, just giddy innocence and joy to be part of a clan.
